Humulus lupulus The short arm of the X - chromosome displayed a specific interstitial DAPI signal. This might be caused by tandem repeats of DNA rich in AT monomers. The Y-chromosome was the smallest one of the karyotype and it did not show any DAPI band nor FISH signal. https://doi.org/10.1023/A:1024646818324
Humulus lupulus Using STS analyses and RAPD, it appears that there are differences in the distribution and proportion of simple repetitive elements in the Y chromosome between H. lupulus from North America and Europe. Markers using these approachs shows that exists differences in the molecular structure of this male sex chromosome between both regions. https://doi.org/10.17660/ActaHortic.2005.668.11
Humulus lupulus HSR1 HSR1 is a satellite region of 380 bp. It is a telomere-associated repeat (checked with BLAST), with a motive in the 124-134 bp position. The HSR1 repeat has shown subtelomeric location on autosomes with the same intensity of the signal. The signal has been present in the subtelomeric region of the long arm and in the near-centromeric region but absent in the telomeric region of the short arm of the X chromosome. At the same time the signal has been found in the telomeric region only of the long arm of the Y chromosome. This finding indicates that the sex chromosomes of hop have evolved from a pair of autosomes via ancient translocation or inversion. https://doi.org/10.1159/000328831
