Populus alba The locus associated with gender determination was mapped on a non-terminal position of LG XIX of the female P. alba map. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11295-010-0297-7
Populus sp. Populus sex chromosome has the lowest gene density between all chromosomes, Salix - sister genus doesn't. Authors deduced that Salix is the nascent lineage arising from the additional round of genome reorganization that distinguishes the karyotypes of the two sister genera (Populus and Salix). https://doi.org/10.1038/s41438-019-0121-y
Populus sp. The sex-determination locus has been mapped to the peritelomeric region of the chromosome XIX, also recently reported in similar position in P. nigra pedigree. This gender locus might encompass several genes underlying gender determination. http://www.genome.org/cgi/doi/10.1101/gr.7076308
Populus sp. Only a small portion (5%) of the sex chromosomes in the popular genome was differentiated from autosomes, suggesting that sex determination of Populus evolved very recently. http://www.genome.org/cgi/doi/10.1101/gr.7076308
Populus sp. In Populus, 37 NBS?LRR genes are found in the peritelomeric region of chromosomes XIX and represents nearly 10 % of all NBS?LRR found throughout the rest of the genome https://doi.org/10.1007/s11295-012-0495-6
Populus tremula x Populus tremuloides Using AFLPs, sex could only be mapped on the male map, and sex remained unlinked on the female map. Also, sex has been mapped to a single locus on linkage XIX. It seems that different species of the genus Populus have a different sex inheritance. This might be explained by chromosomal rearrangements. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11295-009-0204-2
Populus tremula x Populus tremuloides All sex-linked alleles of the markers were inherited from the male parent. In table 2 of this paper there are annotated most of the genes located in the region containing sex-linked markers. https://doi.org/10.1139/X10-206
Populus trichocarpa The maximum number of overlapping sequences was 182 for a repeat that overlaps two differents NBS-LRR genes, with a clear dominance for short RNA of 21 nucleotides. This region also has reduced recombination. It has been suggested that the high presence of these sRNA, together with the presence of NBS-LRR genes, might be responsable of this low recombination level in this region. https://doi.org/10.1186/1471-2164-10-620
Populus trichocarpa No exces of retrogenes traffic is found out of the sex chromosome in Populus, explained because sex chromosomes are very young in this genus. The analysis revealed that 17% of the retrogenes undergo structural renovation through recruitment of preexisting exons and intronization of previous coding regions in the retrosequences. These evolutionary changes in gene structure consequently generate new chimeric proteins and/or new expression patterns, leading to the rise of novel gene functions. It seems common to recruit internal exonic sequences as new introns for these retrogenes in Populus. http://www.plantphysiol.org/cgi/doi/10.1104/pp.109.142984
Populus yunnanensis Under salinity stress, genes located in autosomes appears to make a major contribution to sexual differences in salinity tolerance rather than genes located in region homologous to non-recombining region on the chromosome XIX. (now XY pair) https://doi.org/10.1093/jxb/ers064
